Svart

It is uncertain where the Svart originally came from yet what is commonly known is their dislike to most of the Elvin kind above the surface. They say an old War between the two Elvin deities of that of the High Elves and the Svart was fought. The High elf deity won the battle but was greatly wounded and had the Svart banished to the undergrounds where they would never see the light and sight of the Great Elvin garden again. Those who failed their Deity in that battle are known as the Askarin which Svart fear and distain for their failing their goddess. Svart are known by their white hair or black hair and having grayish if not blue-grey tinted skin. Though many believe Svart are despicable creatures they are merely spiteful of the Surface world. Jealous in some way but disliking what would harm them and does not understand them. Their largest dislikes are the High Elves which they would give no moment to capture torture and kill due to Ancient rivalry.

Svart society is that of a Matriarch form where the women are rulers and the men are dominated. Mostly the women have position for they do not fault like most men of their society do. Though it is known of some Svart men taking rebellious places or preferably not serving under a woman and rather go Adventuring than be humiliated. There are even rumors of Svart setting aside their matriarch and walking the surface or the underground as their own being and seeing what the world is like after 521 years. These are rumors however not true fact and seeing that most Svart society is that of a normal class society. Svart are also known to dislike dwarves, especially when dwarves tunnel into their undergrounds evading their territory. This tends to cause pillaging and trouble for Dwarven Encampments as well as near by Svart Villages.

In the Underground world Svart tend to be sure to stay from Askarin nests and Doubezimer lairs especially Lord Beholders called Doubezima. In the Underground the Svart feel they reign and try to control the under dark beasts of their world to their use. They barely need light only using torches when needed and have a good Dim Light Vision. They are also widely known for their poison arsenal and use of the Shadows making them a very dangerous race when involving professions that require cloak and dagger. Because of their disdain to the Surface very few are shown or allowed the opportunity to take pleasure of some things. To wed a surfacer is an insult to the name of one's house. Let alone association that is not business with a surfacer is seen shameful. Svart tend to be cruel to another especially those weaker or in debt tending to use them for medial labor or other uncalled for tasks.

After the war of the Gods Svart society has some what lessen but keep to their traditional standards. Few surfacers are allowed entry to their undergrounds and some trade is done. Yet Svart tend to keep a close eye of their new neighbors and tend to take a little more than they let on. Yet Svart Society has made but one alliance to the surface since the war and that is to the Continent known as Noctura or better known as the Dark Lands. There the empress of Svart Society, Analia De'mia, has made a treaty of peace with the King known as Dracos von Nightscape. The treaty allows Svart to walk the surface of the Dark Lands and that all laws of both realms are respected. Since this treaty was made during the Great War Svart have seen this Ruler as a dear friend and ally to their World. It is commonly known many other Kingdoms disapprove this alliance but the Svart know well enough to cross the Dark Lands is to ask War.

Quirk: Svart are widely known for their Cloak and Dagger Tactics tending to use surprise attacks and poisons to their advantage at any moment. Because of this in a dark setting for battle Svart tend to have the advantage than other adventurers. They also enjoy the suffering of their enemy and prey when it has fallen and claim rights to one of their dead enemy’s possessions. There are also rumors of some Svart taking to the Surface and adventuring while other return to their original traditions and come to the surface to cause hell and havoc for those in their way to reestablishing the Svart as a respected race on the surface.

Natural Race Abilities

Acute Hearing: Upon a Listen Check Elves gain a Natural +4 that does not hinder them in maxing out the skill Rank but does give them an advantage. Svart however can also get a +2 Bonus on top of the +4 to Listen Check when in Caves, Tunnels, or listening to sounds echoing off of a surface.

Sensitive Touch: No matter what you can tell each and every detail of an item, object, or person. This Sensitive touch all works as an extra sensory when the Elf is touching a Surface it is like a photogenic memory to recall the detail and design of an object with their touch sensory ability. Of coarse an Elf can adjust this sensory touch so as to not overwhelm them with any other touch application.

Exceptional Sight: Elves gain a +4 to any Sight Checks made and it being a natural bonus does not hinder to their max ranks and permits to add on even when 20 Ranks has been met.

Dark Light: Svart are the only ones immune to any impair ness when it comes to Darkness or no light. They can see as if it were day in a Night Vision or Black and White Vision. When in low light or no light situations a Svart can act as if they were using Blind Fighting yet take no penalties of the Skill or Light Conditions.  Since they see better in darkness any illumination or light source brighter than torch impairs a Svart a -2 Impairment Penalty unless they get specific devices that prevent harm to their eyes. A Svart must make a Resist Check Difficulty 14 whenever they come from a Dark Area and into a Lighted Area. If Successful they are immune to any light or illumination penalties and if they fail they are penalize the -2 Impairment penalty.

Craft Poison: +4 to any weapon or ammunition soaked in a Night Vine Poison. When a Dark Elf applies Night Vine to their Weapon or Ammunition the effect is immediate and causes Poison status when Damage is done. The Target must make a Resist of a Difficulty 14 or be effected as if poison. This takes but a turn to apply and if applied to ammunition for each 5 pieces it requires 1 night vine.

Knowledge Poison: Whether a Dark Elf has Ranks in it or not they can apply their knowledge of poisons of the swamps or Caves as a +4 Ranks in the Skill Knowledge Poison.  This can prove useful when they are affected or other are afflicted with Poison Status.

Prevent Poison: The Svart have a natural prevention to poison in their system since they use much of it. Whenever a Svart is poisoned they roll a d10 and must beat a Difficulty of 10 and score more than 10 in order to become immune to poison. When a Svart is successful they are immune to that type of poison for the remainder of the day and cannot be affected by it. Yet if they fail they are affected by the Poison as if normal and must make a Resist Check or Ethereal Resist Depending on the poison.

Concealed in Shadows: A Dark Elf can conceal herself or a small party in an aura of shadows once per day as a natural ability which can give her an advantage against her enemies. This causes a +8 Difficulty to any Sight Checks on them and can be applied to a +8 in Running Away from battle proving very useful. She can use this Aura on herself or to three additional people other than herself.

Stealth in the Shadows: Svart get a +4 to Stealth Checks whether they have Ranks or Maxed in Ranks. This is a natural trait allowing Svart a better benefit of Stealth when in the cloak of Shadows or Darkness.

Shadow Walk: Once per day a Svart can Travel through the Shadows as if it were a Teleportation Spell. The Svart must step into the Shadow and appear at another shadow that is equal to their movement. This does not waste any Movement and can only be used once a day.

False Face: Once per day the Svart has a natural magical gift that allows them to create a illusion that they appear as some one else or human. This remains for the remainder of the day until they are seen for what they are or dispel is cast upon them. For those that attempt to see Svart for whom they are they must Score higher than a Difficulty of 20 on a Mind or Disguise Check.

Favorite Weapons: Svart tend to enjoy using Scimitars, Swords, Knives, and Crossbows. Especially if they are soaked in a poison to further cause their enemy pain.

Favorite Armor: Svart prefer armor that is light and will not give away their position easily when in Stealth. So as long as the armor doesn’t hinder them from being spotted or heard in Stealth it is all good.
